The knee is the largest joint in the body and is a hinge joint because it only allows movement in one direction. There are three bones that make up the knee, including the patella, femur, and tibia. The femur and tibia are separated by thick pads of cartilage that are meant to protect the joint. There are many injuries that can occur and cause the knee joint to become unstable.
